Yeah Wayne, that was me.

DW: "Why on earth are you having a squirt-gun fight with the fan?!"
Me: "What? Oh, ...I'm just having a little trouble growing up."

Just kidding.

I gave the rear ladder a real workout yesterday. Must have used it 8 times or so.

So, in conclusion. Just grabbing the knob to stop it while the cover is opening seems to be the best way to accomplish the task. I would advise not to do this while the cover is closing, as the rain sensor will not close the vent if it rains because it thinks it is already closed.

If for some reason you don't have power to the fan, you can use the "pull the knob down" technique to open or close the cover.
