Chocolate Caramel Brownies

Chocolate Caramel Brownies

1 box of Brownie Mix (Betty Crocker, Pillsbury etc...) see box for additional ingredients needed.
1 package (14 ounces) Hershey "Classic" caramels
1/4 cup evaporated millk (or reg. milk)
3/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 package (6 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup flaked coconut

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Heat caramels and the milk in a heavy saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until caramels are melted and mixture is smooth.

Keep mixture warm over very low heat, stirring occasionally.

Make brownie batter according to directions on box.

Spread half of the brownie batter in an ungreased 13” x 9” pan.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, remove from oven.

Sprinkle chocolate chips, nuts & coconut over baked layer.

Drizzle caramel mixture over the top.

Spread remaining batter onto the caramel layer, spreading evenly.

Bake about 15 to 20 minutes longer. Use toothpick to test for doneness of top brownie batter.

Cool, run knife around edge of dish to loosen and cut into squares while warm.

Cover with plastic wrap to keep fresh.

Note: The bag of caramels are all individually wrapped.
