First off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with cable operated valves. The issue lies with the way the factories install them. They choose a valve/cable package, say 72" long and just throw it in there. The cables should be installed so that from the handle they are straight for at least 6" and as short as possible with minimal bends of a radius no more than 24". The cables MUST be anchored along the way and at both ends.

I replaced all my valves and cables a few years ago with Valterra valves and cables and they have worked perfectly ever since.

I really don't care if cable systems have no inherent problems, if they don't work, they don't work for what ever reason, product, installation or what.
