Kept confusing me for a while as I'm from the Old School and if you're going to have a Truck it has to have an 8' bed.
Why would you make a statement like that to a new member trying to sort things out? An 8' bed is NOT required to tow a fiver at all. I have towed with short beds for 10 years and the last 6 years without a slider. Don't even come close to hitting cab. Being new I'm sure the OP would be more comfortable with a slider though.
