This is a much covered issue on the forum. I stayed with the OEM screws just added the cheap locking washers behind them with a dab of silicone on the back side. No rust no more backing out. They are on my list of regular items to check before rolling down the road now. I am in the PNW where it is often wet and we frequent both the OR and WA coasts, no sign of rusting except for the stairs buts that's another story.
