I bent it. I didn't twist it. The parts of the latch that contact the trailer are mounted vertically. I used a bit of heat and bent it gently just a little and held it on the trailer to check for alignment. I did that one more time and it was at the correct angle. Then I put double sided tape on the parts and tried the latch. It fit good so I screwed them in place.
