I avoid jacking my trailer around at all cost. When I had a short bed I refused to use the slide on the hitch. So in 2 years with that truck I never once had to operate the slide. But even now with the long bed I am very conscious of not turning too tight. I still think that is one of the reasons we have so many tires separate and treads come off.
