I used my Honda 3000 IS last year at 9300 feet on Union Pass Wy. I didn't have any trouble with it. I didn't use my AC. When you get up in August and it's 33 degrees you don't need an AC. My tuned truck didn't like the high altitude. It smoked like a steam engine until it got warm.
Union Pass is my favorite place to camp. There is deer, elk, moose, marmots, brown and black bear up there and still snow on the ground at the higher elevations and trout in every stream and lake.
