been there!
Have not been to Michigan but have been to SD and to Maine...my choice would be SD...lots to see and do. But for me the driving force in the decision would be it is less congested. Sure the tourist areas are always a challenge but the northeast is full of small town after small town, traffic, and to me, just feels crowded. I prefer the central and west part of the country, love the mountains, so most of my vacations are north and west of Texas....SD is a great time.
