So, I was thinking about this while on my recent trip. With the puck system on my Ford, I can easily reverse the hitch (turn it around from front to back). Therefore, I was able to run it in both the forward and reverse positions easily. I weighed it both ways.
Results:
Rearward: Steer Axle 5320, Drive Axle 8160, Trailer Axle 12500, Gross 25980
Forward: Steer Axle 5380, Drive Axle 8140, Trailer Axle 12489, Gross 26000
I think the difference in the total was within the margin of error or the scale.
I felt that it squatted just a bit more and I guess the 20 extra pounds on the drive axle combined with the 60 pound lighter steer axle was detectable, but only slightly. For me, I prefer the front position. But overall, try it both ways and see which you like. Easy to do with the puck systems.
