FLORIDA, Ocala - Silver River State Park

One of the newest, if not THE newest Florida State Parks/Campgrounds. Two sets of double loops make up the campgrounds. The majority of the sites are pull-throughs all of which are VERY generously sized in both length and width. Most are nicely shaded in the picnic, grill, fire ring area for a portion of the day if not most of the day. A couple are full sun almost all day. ALL are flat and while not solid surface (as in concrete or black top) they are well packed and top coated with a light surface of a very small gravel (looks to be lime stone). Eight foot long picnic tables with attached six foot long benches; fire ring, grill, water and electric (predominantly 30 amp with some 50 amp); nice restrooms/bath house with deep sink and washer and dryer. WONDERFUL staff and the last Saturday of each month they have a guided tour of the reproduction cracker village. There is a very nice (albeit small) museum and museum shop about the area and anthropological finds (BIG skeletons of mammoths and sharks). They have recently started renting kyaks as the Silver River (go figure) is accessible by foot path. They allow an hour for pick up and return for which you don't pay the hourly rate.

When we first came here NO ONE knew about this gem of a park. Now, however, the secret is out and the park is very popular. You can make reservations 11 months in advance via Reserve America.

I don't think there is a Monty made that would not be able to be accommodated in more than one site here. The size of the sites are provided on the Reserve America site for ease of ensuring the site will accommodate your rig.

I highly recommend this lovely state park (right next to Silver Springs the head of the river and a well known tourist location in Florida.
