The piece of wood under our fridge is real wood. If yours isn't, and you are having problems with it holding screws, you should be able to pick up a piece of oak for the door and stain it to the color to match your cabinets. I took a drawer front to a local paint store in town and we were able to match the stain from a product on their shelf.
