Dave I hang mine down though the ladder like carol and al as for the plug mine had about 1" pulled away from the end so I wrapped it with rubber tape and then went over that with a good grade of electrical tape and its been doing fine for 2 or 3 of yrs. I don't think it will hurt anything seems like just the cover pulling back from the heat outside. JMHO
