According to some of my reading these handles are made to be forced open in the case someone closed them while the RV is occupied. It may take a good push and the door may develop a couple of dents where it contacted the handle but you should be able to get out. If you look at the handle, the notches are deeper on the extended side than they are on the closed side. It would appear they are made to be forced open (for safety reasons). I would suggest you take a look at how your grab handles are mounted to see if you think this is correct.
