I've used a 12 VDC Harbor Freight hi volume compressor for several years. It looks similar in design to a Viair and cost around $50. All I've ever had to do to it was tighten the head cap screws once. It has pumped up a 16" truck tire in very little time. No doubt Viair's are nice, but I don't need that quality and price stowed in my fiver just to use once or twice a year.
