Rather than clean the o-ring, I'd try to find a replacement. I'm not saying I've never reused an o-ring, just that in other applications, I've better luck replacing them. I'm betting that Lippert is counting on the Permatex to seal whatever imperfection or nick in the o-ring caused the leak. I'd use a new o-ring and count on the Permatex to seal any imperfections in the housing it sits in.
