On mine, the fireplace comes out as a whole unit. You do NOT remove the glass. On mine, there is a metal trim piece, about 1 1/2” wide, around the outside of the fireplace, which slides up and off. It conceals the screws holding the unit. Once off, there are four screws which hold the fireplace in place. Once the screws are out, the whole unit can be removed and unplugged. It is not very heavy.
