jimandlauri ... the plastic ones that are simply hand held work fine even if they don't turn evenly. Once I get several turns of coax on my hand held ... it actually spools better. Each of us have different views of things, but I really like what I have as one with feet just takes up more room or won't allow stuff to easily stack on top of it. My plastic spool has lasted a long long time. I even use one of the orange spools for the newer style fresh water hoses that are really flexible and have the fabric cover. Works just as good as coiling it up in a clothes basket.
