I also updated Streets & Trips from 2005 to 2006, and no you do not have to get a new GPS Reciever.
But when I installed S&T 2006 it needed to go to microsofts' website to get a driver for the GPS Reciever.
I don't know why but windows XP did it on its own. It is a lot nicer with voice direction from the laptop especially if the co-pilot is not keeping track.
