That has been mentioned here many times before that the sticker on the trailer means nothing but thats not true. If you have to go by the sticker on the truck than it stands to reason the sticker on the trailer is also correct. Now how the trailer gets those max towing numbers is a mystery to me. However if a cop rolls up on a accident and sees a 40' 5th wheel behind a f250 SRW he may check the stickers but they are not going to drag out the scale and start weighing stuff. They are going to read the sticker from the manufacturer. It makes sense to me that towing correct is the best way. I also believe selecting the correct truck is important. But just remember every truck is different depending on trim levels so the numbers from the dealer are misleading. You need to use the yellow sticker in the door only and not the numbers in the brochure. Those are just guidelines. I do however believe you should use the numbers on the sticker on the trailer for correct weights.
