Yes with Canada's 150th celebrations and free national park entrance things will be very busy so I would recommend having reservations all along your trip.

You will enjoy Canmore. We actually prefer it over Banff as it is a lot less hectic yet has the same gorgeous mountain views and so many shops that are all about the tourists.

Canmore is just a short maybe 20 minute drive from Banff so day trips are a real breeze. As well there will.be many added attractions this year in celebration of Canada's 150th.
