You can see the evaporator coil up through the unit with the filter removed. And no, it's not a repair the average person can undertake. While we're on the subject, that filter that comes on the Dometic unit is a piece of crap. Of course, our TT had a Coleman, and the filter on it was crap also.
One thing, if you're using the oven or stove (gas) the one AC won't keep up with the temperature what it is outside. We found that out last week. Cook outside or use the microwave.
