HI Art, I was a USN Navy Damage Controlman, Ship Fitter ( HP welder) and second class diver when I retired. My impression is that the Chinese’s shock failed because the stud could not hold up to the stress. It broke at the point where the stud was weld attached to a collar at the end of the shock. Bottom line "just a Chinese piss bore product”. Regarding my fix, I will say that the shock will wear out before my weld fails. With that said, I will still replace all the Chinese shocks when I get back to the USA.
