I talked with him today and the oder was gone after flushing his black tank and has not returned. He noticed their toilet bowl was not holding water in the bowl, it slowly drains out through the night. He cleaned the seal around the ball valve and it seems to be holding water a little better now. I mentioned he might have the seal changed out anyways just to be sure it fixes the problem.
