When you get to Flagstaff there are two ways to go. West on I40 to Williams, then AZ64 north to the canyon. The other way is wend your way through Flag traffic and narrow roads to AZ180, which goes northwest and connects to AZ64. I wouldn't suggest that route unless you know Flag well; even without a trailer it isn't fun.
