2x4x22” on edge with slides mounted to them then glued and screwed to the wall with 2” screws Do not use longer or they could come through the walls I laid a 2x4 flat on the floor for a spacer to set the bottom guides on then used 8 1/2” 2x4 setting on the bottom mount to mount the next one up working my way to the top. No measuring required. Gives 12” between shelves. On mine drawers are 16” wide x 22” deep
