A tuner will make you think you are getting better mileage. They alter the throttle position along with other things so the “lie o meter” will say you are getting better mileage than you really are but if you check with a pen and paper you will find very little difference. When I tuned my truck I thought I was getting 3 to 4 MPG better and that would have been nice if it was true.
Any thing the manufacturers can do to get better mileage they will do. GM and Ford just spent hundreds of millions to develop their 10 speed transmission to get 1 MPG better mileage. They would surly put a different oil or filter in if it would get better fuel economy and still protect their high tech engines.
If you are looking for more power go for it. If you are looking for better fuel mileage good luck with that.
