The pin over the rear axle in pickup land is all about being able to carry the weight (to not overload the rear axle). In HDT land a well setup truck will have plenty of capacity on the rear and will not need to worry about having a rearward pin location. (on my last HDT the pin was 40inches rear of the axle center line)

From a driving dynamics perspective having the pin rear of the rear axle causes the trailer to track tighter to the truck and respond more quickly when backing up. Effectively, its all better with a rearward pin location for a 5th as long as the truck can handle the load.
