The common saying for the Fords (and newer Diesels) is 'Drive it like you stole it!!'; they are a work truck and don't like to be babied with daily driving. According to my neighbor (a long-time Ford Mechanic) the biggest issue they have is caused by short drives where the vehicle never really get hot and worked. Pulling the Monty should help keep it running for a long time to come.
