Never had that happen, but when ours is in the up position there is a cotter pin that seems to hold the nut that rides the turning worm gear and is actually what raises and lowers the mechanism. Whatever that cotter pin locks in place could be your problem. Hopefully someone has worked on these because if it's that what it is, or if it's the motor, I can't figure out a good way to get at them. Good luck and keep us informed!
