From the sound of your post if you presently have 7K axles I would go with the 7K IS.We are long timers and run heavy so although we had 7K axles we went with the 8K is system.The price was not all that much different when we had ours installed.
Note the 8K Is did not change the specs of our Montana but they are a bit more sturdy and we still do not exceed the specs of the Montana. The 8K was to us just a better platform.
