3 Montanas and have never had to remove the spare to check/add air but if I had to remove for any reason would pull forward as recommended. I have always been able to do air maintenance without removing. On one of them I installed a flexible line to the valve stem and mounted it to the side of the Montana where I didn't even have to get on my knees.
