A tarp takes little room and using it avoids laying in mud and whatever. On our 5 week trip this year I had a crossbed box from a compact truck, it sits on the floor, across the rear of the bed and it was packed. I also have a 50 gal in bed tank in the front. The long bed of the dually gives a decent amount of space
