We don't have the full roller cover but I would think it would keep water from getting into the roll and causing mildew. If your slides are extended whenever not traveling then maybe this is not important. I will get it next time for the patio awning, however, for the same reason. I'm not sure how well the cover keeps water out but surely it would help.
