Reading this thread makes me get back excited about ham radio. I was first licensed novice in 1962 as wn4nvq. Later that year I passed my general and call was changed to wa4nvq. In 1969 I went to Atlanta and passed advance, extra and went ahead and got commercial 2nd class with radar endorsement and call changed to w4xh. Back then extra required 20 word per minute code.
I can remember my wife getting on to me for waking her up in middle of night trying to work that DX. Heard Gene Autry and Author Godfrey back then. Also the Arizona senator Goldwater.
I use to really enjoy CW nets. Don't know if they even exist any more. Only thing I have left is 2 meter.
