CADman, The holes I drilled are a pretty tight fit on the pins, and since there's two on each side there is very little movement.
And since we don't travel with them, I also drilled on the backside of the inserts for the hand rail, cut two sections of 1" square alum stock to use as spacers and mount my hand rail on the outside.
