Ray I'm confused with your comment above. Hwy 395 does not go to or through Bakersfield. I'm sure you know that but I'm wondering what exactly you mean.
I suspect you are simply asking about taking 395 from the Southern CA area to the OR border. If so I think you'd enjoy that route. Hwy 395 is a good two lane road almost the entire route to OR or at least until you get into Northern CA around the Susanville area. We have taken that route a number of times and we really enjoy the diversity. A a matter of fact when we go back up to OR in September we plan on taking 395.
