We also leave the bedroom door open synched by the plastic strap snap and I also added the door stop. As for the ladder chair, we put it at the end of the dining table with the front legs straddled over the closest feet of the table. Doing it this way locks the chair in place and their is enough space between the chair back and the kitchen counter to run the slide in.
