Not sure that I fully agree that lack of use makes the systems last longer. In many mechanical systems lack of use causes more rapid deterioration. With regular use systems remain lubricated, seals remain pliable and so on. The longer that a unit is stored, the more chance that systems will seize up or fail from lack of use. I can relate this to my generator on my rig. The instructions say that at least once per month, I should run it under full load to keep all parts properly lubed and working. The longer it sits unused, the more chance for startup damage from lack of use. The same logic can be applied to the use of the refrigerator, hydraulic systems and seals in the plumbing.
