If you want to use the interstates, use US31 south to Indianapolis. This is now all 4 lanes divided highway, with a few stoplights, but not many. Use I465 around the west side of Indianapolis to I70 west to St. Louis, then on to Springfield. There are no worries on heighth.

We travel US31 north frequently to Goshen to visit our son and grandson.
