Colo campgrounds - La Junta KOA

La Junta is located in southeastern Colorado, on US 50, about an hour east of Pueblo. Hot and humid (for Colorado) in the summertime.
The KOA is owned and managed by Gene Rowland and his family - very friendly and very helpful folks. Small campground, clean, no view to speak of, and young trees that do not provide much shade. They have a small pool, and plan on installing a mini golf course this spring.
There is a SuperWalMart 200 yards away across a field that will eventually become a strip center I believe. Blockbuster video adjacent. There is a car dealership (Ford, Chrysler) within walking distance the other direction, that does excellent work on big trucks. You are 15 miles from Rocky Ford, and the famous Rocky Ford melons / cantalopes.
You are close to US50, and train tracks lie just on the other side of the highway. You think the trains are rolling right through your RV in the middle of the night.
Probably not the best spot for long term, but perfect for a couple of nights, or quick truck repair.
We park our 3280 down there for 6 weeks in the winter during waterfowl season. Gene lets us leave the 5er in a site, no hookups, for $1 a day. We come down weekends, hook up the electric and cable, and have our home away from home! Leave the 5er winterized, bring water, and drain the holding tanks before we leave. Nights usually in the teens in the winter, so far, no freezing problems.
