Another thing that will extend the life of your hoses is have a high quality pressure regulator at the hose bib, so your hose is not subject to extremely high pressures. I've had fittings blow off the end of a hose, especially when it is hot and the hose is in full sun, prior to using a pressure regulator ahead of the hose. This is the setup I use now, and the stainless steel mesh hose ahead of the regulator is a water heater flex hose with adapter fittings that I can connect to water hose fittings.
