We have done the 101 several times from Washington to the Santa Barbara area in California. No problems. We trend to go inland around Santa Rosa to avoid San Francisco and the bay area. There are a few places that are narrow but very doable. Just a note, your speed will be slow at times if your doing it in the summer. Wife and I love the Oregon coast and have spent several summers there. We like the central and southern part of the coast in Oregon. If you are planning to do some state parks, better make reservations as soon as possible.
