Also check the outside GFI outlet. We once had it tripped out there and it shut down the interior GFI outlets as all are on the same circuit.
On the A/C, if blocking it off is working I would leave it. I don't think that duct returns anywhere. It just deadends. If my memory from the factory tours serves me.
