2008 6.7 Cummins EGR Cooler

The "Perform Service" light came on in our 08 Ram 3500 with the 6.7 Cummins in it. It has about 124K on it. Truck runs fine; no smoke from the tailpipe under acceleration or heavy load (pulling the 5er).

I see that replacing the CCV filter and cleaning the EGR valve are not too big of a deal but removing and cleaning the EGR cooler is quite the job. On the Cummins Diesel forum I've read the back and forth of whether or not this is something that you need to do (if it ain't broke, don't fix it vs do what Dodge recommends). Some Cummins mechanics say that Cummins doesn't require the EGR cooler to be cleaned at specified intervals -- only when it starts acting up and needs it.

A number of owners seem to only replace the CCV filter and clean the EGR valve and not worry about the cooler.

Anyway, if any of you have the 6.7 Cummins, I'd like your opinion of whether or not it's worth it to clean the EGR cooler.
