As stated, it protects the electric/electronic component's in the camper from many varying issues such as low voltage/high voltage/lost neutral/reverse polarity/missing ground etc.

I camped at a friends place and was hooked up via 200 foot of cheap a-- extension cord. The unit protected my camper from the low voltage that was delivered to the camper by cutting it off.
