I acquired the somewhat difficult moon just b4 it dropped behind a distant tree - 8:12pm from near Lake Conroe, Tx. It was difficult to locate until I used Venus as a reference and a pair of 8x35 binoculars. The arc of illumination appeared to be just over 90 degrees running from 3 o'clock to 6:30 - very much like the image above. There seemed to be a haze in the atmosphere. This moon observation was more difficult than I had considered it would be. Often, a one day old moon with a separation of 12+ degrees is visible naked eye. Neither I or Joy were able to pick it out of the sky without binoculars.

Moon Data
altitude: 5.1d
azimuth: 278
age: 23h 14m
separation from sun: 12.6d
time from sunset to moonset: 50m
phase: 0.0138
sun 5.3d below horizon
