On a previous (SOB) trailer, our emergency brake cable got caught in the hitch during a tight turn. We have an 8' box and can therefore turn tighter than those with shorter boxes. DH had to cut the cable as it was caught up so badly.

We now have one of those curly ones (like the cord on a landline phone). It stays out of the way a lot better.

Before this happened, another fifth wheel owner we met at a campground told us a story of his trailer stopping dead during a turn in a town. He did not know what had happened and it took him quite a while to figure it out. He said if that ever happens to us, check the brake cable first. As soon as it happened to us, his words came back to me, and sure enough, it was the brake cable.
