One thing I try and do when looking at a new to us CG is look them up on Bing Maps and try and zoom in close enough to see the sites. Doesn't always work, but can give you a rough idea of site size and location of trees. Also, most CGs will take you to the site on a Golf Cart so you can check it out before getting stuck in a spot designed for a tent or pop-up.
