Tow haul mode does a lot more then change shift points, what makes it work is the fact that it locks the torque converter in every shift except 1st, this keeps the torque pulling and keeps the trans temps down. And it does work in conjunction with the turbo brake, sometime rather violently, as in it will about throw ya into the steering wheel if you should decide to touch the brakes at the same time the turbo brake engages and the down shift takes place. My Ram was really, really good at slowing a load quickly, without braking. My new Chevy is good, but does not measure up to the 2008 Ram.
